PostgreSQL is a powerful open-source object-relational database management systems (ORDBMS) that comes packed with many features and it is free to use. This is an introductory screen for anyone who is interested in learning about the Structured Query Language using PostgreSQL.


If you do not have Homebrew installed open your terminal and run the line provided below. Otherwise, skip and go to the next step.

$ ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

To install PostgreSQL on a Mac OS X, if you already have Homebrew installed, open your terminal and run the line below.

$ brew install PostgreSQL
  • Run the following command to fire up Postgres
$ brew services start PostgreSQL
  • Create a database named rivers
$ createdb rivers
  • Inter into your database
$ psql rivers
